Been a Long Day

I wish I could see you standing without you running away
I wish you would want to listen to hear what I have to say
I wish we could be so happy thinking of better days,
But you don’t want to be here with me; you’ve found another way
I’m close to tears, I’m afraid-
Of the life you left today
Close the door, come what may
It’s been a long day
I wish I could understand what people say when they raise their hands
To the sky, but don’t look within to ask what could change, right there, within them
I, I am fine
We are fine, we’re circling the drain
Yes, I can see the light
Above all else, it looks the same
I wish I could see you standing without you running away
I wish you would want to listen to hear what I have to say
I wish we could be so happy thinking of better days
But you don’t want to be here with me; you’ve found another way
I’m close to tears, I’m afraid-
Of the life you left today
Close the door, come what may
It’s been a long day

Half Full

It's so frustrating, watching the TV,
not sure what's true and what's a hype
We hear them speaking, our politicians,
What's the point when all they do is fight?
Up with the sun, it's the start of classes
With all that's going on, at least our glass is…
half full with aspirations,
And plans to reschedule our vacations
The dent's been made and may remain-
For a while longer we suppose
How long should we wait, you know?
Let's try to improve the way we've lived;
Like nothing mattered, take or give
We turn off lights to save the world,
But who will save the little girl
Sitting in her best dress,
Looking a bit distressed,
Crying for "normalcy"?
Up with the sun, it's the start of classes
With all that's going on, at least our glass is…
half full with aspirations,
And plans to reschedule our vacations
The dent's been made and may remain-
For a while longer we suppose
How long should we mourn, you know?
It can’t wait, so get up and stand
Take a deep breath and raise both hands
It's time to own up- to check ourselves
We're who could've saved the young man-
Who worried walking home alone
They said he looked suspicious holding groceries
How is this our normalcy?
Up with the sun, it's the start of marches
With all that's going on at least our heart is…
Half full with aspirations,
And plans to pursue all our new vocations
The dent's been made and may remain
For a while longer we suppose…
How long should we wait, you know?
How long should we mourn, you know?
How long should we wait, you know?
It's so frustrating, watching the TV…

Voice Down Low

Now seems like as good a time as any
There’s not much to it, to rock and roll
I’ll kick it back, relax, and take things steady
Give your expectations up, and simply let it go
Society says to give unto others more-
Now, I’ve chosen to take what I’m given
See, just meeting expectations can be such a bore
When people like us, we are so driven
To go, (oo, woah, oh) I don’t need to take things slow,
Oh, (oo, woah, oh) or keep my voice down low
Woah, (oo, woah, oh) we’ve just got to let it go,
Oh, (oo, woah, oh) not keep my voice down low
Just give in
Just let her win
There’s nothing you can do to stop it
You can call her a friend,
You can tell her she might…
not be around to witness this fight
No matter what you want,
No matter what she says,
Don’t listen to the voices in their heads
You know what you must do
You know that we’ve gotta try-
To do what we might…
We've got to go, (oo, woah, oh)
Can't afford to take things slow
Oh, (oo, woah, oh) or keep our voice down low
Woah, (oo, woah, oh) we've just got to let it go
Oh, (oo, woah, oh) not keep our voices low
Ooo, ooo

We stand here twisting, turning
An ash, still burning in the wind
Climbing higher, looking for dryer
A place for a fire to begin
From one tossed cigarette,
Carelessly thrown from weathered hands
Beginnings start from ends, let's not forget…
Those who push us are our friends
We're burning brighter, with fueled desire
Do the means justify the end?
Must we destroy to feel inspired?
Those who push us are our friends
Listen to each other,
Lean into one another
Stomp out the fire, begin again
Start from a better place,
Keep up a good pace
Forgive the hands of that weathered man
Come into your own now
Just say you’ll try to learn how…
From one tossed cigarette,
Carelessly thrown from weathered hands
Beginnings start from ends, let's not forget…
Those who push us are our friends
We're burning brighter, with fueled desire
Do the means justify the end?
Must we destroy to feel inspired?
Those who push us are our friends
Those who push us are our friends, yeah!
We're burning brighter, with fueled desire
Do the means justify the end?
Must we destroy to feel inspired?
Those who push us are our friends

Can’t You See

Ooo,
Can’t you see?
As we go walking down this road,
It’s not the only road we know
We’ve had a trial, we’ve seen those trails,
What might’ve won easily has failed.
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s more than you, it’s more than me!
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s not much longer we’ll be free,
Mhmm
They see us trekking down this track
We can see clearly what we lack
This nation, we pick at our wounds
And wonder why we end up all bruised
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s more than you, it’s more than me!
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s not much longer we’ll be free…
~~Instrumental~~
Free, free, free
~~Guitar solo~~
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s more than you, it’s more than me!
Can’t you see, oh can’t you see?
It’s not much longer we’ll be free,
Are we free?
